Emergency Contraceptive: Patient Success Story

It was 2013. I had recently given birth to my first child, had not resumed a regular cycle yet, and had unprotected intercourse. I was aware of the consequences of having unprotected sex, so I decided to start using contraceptives; I turned to Google to figure out which one to buy but then I realised self-medication can lead to disastrous results. So, finally my husband and I decided to consult a doctor. As 3 days passed after unprotected intercourse, doctor suggested new pill with 5 days of protection. Emotionally, I think I felt fine. After taking it, I felt a bit sleepy but not much out of the ordinary, actually. I felt relieved to be doing something about the situation, and grateful I had this option readily available. I've had bleeding (like a light period) starting a day or so after I took that pill. Physically, there was some cramping and bleeding, but I was otherwise fine. I think my relatively high exposure to online information and communities that discuss pregnancy prevention and termination options factually made a big difference in how I approached the situation at the time.
