PMS treatment depends on the severeness of the symptoms. If the symptoms are mild to moderate, they can be relieved by changes in lifestyle or diet. However, in severe cases treatment is suggested by doctors. Some treatment strategies include:

  • Aerobic exercise (requiring free oxygen): It may reduce weakness and depression and lessens PMS symptoms.
  • Diet change: A complex carbohydrate or calcium-rich diet may reduce mood symptoms and food cravings and may help in relieving the symptoms of PMS.
  • Antidepressants: It can be helpful in treating PMS in some women. These drugs can help lessen mood symptoms.
  • Anti-anxiety (stops uneasiness) drugs: If anxiety is a major PMS symptom, an anti-anxiety drug can be used if other treatments do not seem to help.
  • NSAIDs: Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen, can help reduce pain. But long-term use of NSAIDs may cause stomach bleeding or ulcers.
  • Diuretics: These drugs help in reducing fluid build-up inside your body. Drug is given to increase the production of urine.
